Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I was visiting my grandparents during the holidays in 1999 back in Algeria, and my cousins were there too. They were playing Tomb Raider on their PC and I was mesmerized. This was a female lead, and she seemed to be an incredible athlete, with great abilities. I was instantly hooked and never left the computer the rest of my time there. Strong females were unheard of in Algeria, damsels in distress was what i was used to in that country. So it was love at first sight with Lara.

Years later when we immigrated to England, We got internet, and i was finally connected to the rest of the world. I started talking people on myspace with the same interest, One day a friend mentioned cosplaying to me. I had no idea what it was. After she sent me a few photos of girls in Lara costumes, i was again hooked forever. I took apart an old backpack for its webbing, straps and buckles, turned a black t-shirt into one without sleeves, cut my cargo pants into shorts. can you guess what for? Yes it was my attempt at AOD shorts outfit, my mom was the only one that knew, i was afraid to show my dad, but that’s when i started my website and connected with people with the same hobby.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

It was Angel of Darkness, the short shorts outfit, I remember thinking it was probably very easy to construct.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

Tomb Raider Underworld for sure, I loved every single aspect of that costume, and I felt very confident in it, I always had issues with my arms and tummy, and I felt good about wearing it as the reaction from people was very positive. The backpack is my favorite piece, I love that it’s secured across the chest and the belt impressed me too.

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

I want to do Tomb Raider 2013 Sure-shot outfit, Tomb Raider Legend Biker no jacket and Tomb Raider 3 south pacific outfit, but the need for cosplaying takes over me like a demon possessing me so I might make a costume out of nowhere :)

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

The competition bow for sure, for Tomb Raider 2013, I had never attempted to make anything like it before, and let alone make it out of foam. and the most challenging part was to draw it and cut it out, I was pleasantly surprised when i was done and to have it functional was even better!

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

For that tiger/tree picture, We canoed to a near by island on my friend’s lake, it was about a quarter mile away so it was quite a stretch, on the way I could not help thinking of Lara in that rowboat in TR3.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

Unfortunately i don’t really have means to travel anywhere special, the best location I’ve been to was a small island in a lake in Maine, North East USA.

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

There are three ways in which Lara changed my life or helped me deal with fears, one was helping me keep an eye on my health, I always remind myself of cosplay when i want that second helping of ice cream, the second, is when we were getting ready to move to England and i was scared, reminding myself of Lara’s fearlessness and courage helped me prepare for that seismic life change. Finally moving to the United States to meet my husband of 5 years now was also largely due to having the “I’m ready for anything” attitude thanks to Lara. :)

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

Since I was a child my friends and my family told me: “Your eyes are like Lara`s eyes, you look like Lara, you could be a good Lara Croft.” I thought that while I was a teenager I would look ridiculous in a costume of Lara Croft and that`s why I forgot about this idea for a long time. Until, by chance, I saw at a shop the same cloth as Lara`s leotard from the classic game series and I could not resist a temptation. That was the beginning.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

The classic costume – brown rucksack, shorts, high boots, blue swimsuit, holsters. As it was January I decided that there was no reason to waste such a splendid winter and I made the bomber jacket.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

SIt is really hard to choose, they are all dear to me… maybe it is the snow outfit from Tomb Raider: Legend because I really like the play of light and shadow on the cloth and certainly, It has a interesting look to it.

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

I really want to make a shirt with the British flag on it, like Karima Adebibe`s, but unfortunately I can`t find the same cloth. Also, I want to make a short film, but there are no proper landscapes in Moscow or close to it. That is why we will need to go somewhere far, and also this will take a lot of my time and cameraman`s time. I hope I will make this in winter 2014..

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

The classic Lara costume, because it was my first experience in cosplay.

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

Not long ago I decided to begin hiking and my first place where I went was the North-West Caucasian Range. I took with me my blue leotard, pistols, and etc. To be honest, to jump over stones and try to stay on the steep wall close to waterfall is not easy at all in real life! Specially, when holsters strive to catch hold the branches of plants!

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

The strangest place where I had been is the Capuchins catacombs in Palermo. Eight thousand dead men without coffins are around you - this is not for nervous. It reminded me one moment from the book “Master and Margarita” by Bulgakov – Satan`s ball. Also, I dream about to climb up on Everest someday, but I will start from lower heights. I am going to climb up on slopes of Elbrus next year.

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

This cosplay attracted me exactly because Lara is the same as me! There are some acrobatic moves I can do now, though.

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

When I was about eight years old, I used to go into my local GAME shop once in a while to pick up a new game to play. I liked playing games with female characters. This, however, normally consisted of various Barbie games, Disney Princess and yes, Mary-Kate and Ashley games - most of them being horse riding ones.

Truthfully, it was the hair that first drew me to the Tomb Raider games. One time, I went into GAME and discovered Tomb Raider III. On the back, it showed a girl with a long brown hair down to her waist (which is how I use to have mine), and that she had a house to walk around in. That’s exactly what I did for a long time after first getting the games. I liked to make up my own story-lines.

I gradually collected the others out of order and then in later years, I started exploring the more athletic side of the games - going on the assault course and discovering what Lara could really do. I suppose it became a way to experience things that I couldn’t do myself (I have Cerebral Palsy and use a wheelchair). I felt like I was with Lara doing it.

It wasn’t until 2007 when I discovered cosplay. I found some videos by Anne Roig and Jenn Finaldi (Jenn Croft). Following that, I discovered pictures by others and I was inspired to try it myself.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

The costume from the first game. I didn’t do a very good job, though. I had an old school satchel for the backpack. It just shows that you improve over time!

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

So far, I’d say the Tomb Raider Legend Biker costume. I think it’s the most accurate one I’ve done. In terms of in the games, I like the costume Lara wears in Tomb Raider (2013) best because of it’s realism; also because of the slight homage to the Classic costume in colour scheme.

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

There are a number of costumes on my list but the one I think I’ll be doing next is the wetsuit from Tomb Raider: Underworld.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

The Underworld wetsuit and its accessories are proving very difficult to construct. It has been on the go for two or more years and we’re still struggling with how to attach the sleeve stripes!

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

I suppose so. It wasn’t technically a photoshoot, but in 2008 I attended an assult course day with the Bendrigg Trust and Cumbria Cerebral Palsy Society. I was still a fairly new cosplayer then and so I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some photos/video in costume. I did abseiling for the first time, and naturally, the zip wire.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

Probably for my most recent photoshoot which was an orchard in the North of England!

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

To a certain extent, yes, I think so. It inspired me to push my own physical limits and to do things like the abseiling and zip wire. It also inspires me to do the best I can and achieve my own goals in life.

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I’ve always admired Lara! She is such a fearless character. I’ve always wanted to be similar to Lara, but obviously I can’t run on graves and shoot people.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

My first costume was “Reborn.” I already had the chance to shoot with Alexander, the best photographer in the world! I’m very grateful for the support and the help.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

Reborn! For me it was my first experience tailoring and my first experience performing!

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

Legend! I very much want to make everything.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

Reborn. I spent a long time on this costume. I even bought theatrical dirt and blood, spent a long time on the axe, the arrows – everything is made manually. It was heavy…

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

It would be very desirable to test my costume on adventures, but unfortunately I have the quiet life of an office worker. Although I try to bring adventures to life somehow…I like to travel.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

In Turkey I was struck by the mountains. I would like to look at everything in the world!

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

I would like to be able to do everything that Lara does! She is clever, beautiful, and strong physically and spiritually… Lara really motivates me. She gives me faith in myself… When things are hard I repeat the phase: “You can do it, Lara. After all, you’re a Croft.”

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

In 1997, I played Tomb Raider for the first time thanks to my father and a his friend who gave me Tomb Raider II. My love for Lara and Tomb Raider never faded. When I was 8 years old, I loved dressing up like Lara and tried to cosplay her. I started to assemble my first Lara Croft cosplay in 2011. The first costume I ever wore at a convention was the Tomb Raider Legend Biker outfit.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

My first costume was the regular outfit from Tomb Raider Legend. I’ve remade it several times through the years.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

My favourite one is the Tomb Raider II Tibet one. I really love the winter outfits! I also love the various wetsuits, I really hope to do them a day!

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

I have a lot more costumes to do! Some of them are already in progress. I really want to do the Tomb Raider III South Pacific outfit soon, as well as the Tomb Raider Anniversary one.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

For me, it was the Tomb Raider Underworld outfit. I went crazy while making the backpack and the holsters! The top and the shorts were also hard to do: the fishnet fabric was especially hard to find. But I’m proud of the result!

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

I always love when I can do photoshoots in a forest or an environment related to the games. They give a true Lara feeling! Unfortunately, my photos are not professional. They’re usually taken by my friends or by someone from my family. I haven’t found the perfect location yet, but I’m trying my best!

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

I haven’t visited many exotic locations yet. When I travel, I always go camping with my 4x4! I love to go in places that aren’t easy to reach like small deserts in Corsica or abandoned places!

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

To me, Lara is an ideal! She’s brilliant, smart, strong, beautiful… and yes, she did influence me a bit! I’m gonna do combat sports like Karate, I love shooting… I also love my Land Rover, which I use a lot to go adventuring!

Lara has also interested me in ancient history, such as Ancient Egypt. She has also some influence over my dressing style: sometimes I get dressed with camo clothes and combat boots!

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I first saw the original Tomb Raider at a friend’s house when I was eight. It was the first time I’d seen a strong female character as a protagonist. I was immediately drawn in and bought my own copy, I’ve been hooked on Tomb Raider ever since.

I have always wanted to dress up as Lara at Halloween or a fancy dress party but I never had the confidence to do it until I met my best friend at University. She taught me about Cosplay and invited me along to a Con, seeing so many costumes and amazing people gave me the confidence to finally do it.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

The classic outfit, it was my first ever attempt at Cosplay, so I kept it simple and recognizable.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

The full Dead Zone outfit from the first Tomb Raider film.

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

So many! I definitely have Underworld planned and I’m seriously considering a Reborn Lara as well as Lara’s Tokyo dress from Legend.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

Lara’s Tokyo dress was going to be the second Lara outfit I would have done, but I had never made something from scratch before and I lacked a sewing machine. So unfortunately it defeated me, now that I’m a more experienced costume maker, it’s on my list of Cosplays to conquer.

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

There are two photoshoots that come to mind, the first being the one I did in the snow. I was climbing huge logs and kneeling all while wearing shorts and a crop top, I couldn’t help but think how Lara could do that for entire levels of a game because I was freezing!

The second is the most recent photoshoot I did, it was a round a con but there was an awesome water feature. So, to the photographer’s surprise, I instantly waded through the water without hesitation.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

My parents used to live near the Pyrenees. I often visited and would go on long hikes on the mountain trails.

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

Cosplaying Lara has greatly influenced my life; it’s made me a stronger and more confident person. Not only that but her physical strength has inspired me to go the gym regularly to improve my strength and keep fit.

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I might give away my age here, but back when I used to get GamePro magazines they would send out demo CD’s, and Tomb Raider II was one of the demos I played. I realized that I kept playing the demo repeatedly, and I just couldn’t get enough! So when the game finally came out for the PlayStation, I picked it up and have been hooked ever since!

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

The first costume that I attempted was her Classic outfit, which my father helped construct! We used fake leather, and yellow printer paper for the buckle! It was quite a fun experience, to say the least!  My dad came up with the nickname “FrankenHolster” because of the quality.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

I will always love her Classic outfit!

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

My biggest goal is to complete Lara’s newest outfit with all of her upgraded gear, as well as her black Tokyo dress.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

I would have to say Lara’s newest outfit, oddly enough. Mostly because I just gave birth to my son not even a year ago, so as far as money and time, well, it’s been very tight. But I really lucked out with having an amazing fiancé who helps me with all of my weapon construction, special effects makeup, costume collecting/scouting, babysitting, and acts as my photographer too!

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

I’ve got a couple of interesting things under my belt. I’ve traveled a fair share to exotic Islands and temples when I was younger. I’ve really gotten into history and archaeology because of Lara, and I love collecting little trinkets here and there when I travel! I was a gymnast for quite some time, but stopped after a while due to personal reasons. And I’m always up for a hike, or going out camping with just a couple of matches and a sleeping bag to last me the night. Rock climbing is another one of my favorites, as well as swimming!

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

For one of my photo shoots, I traveled to Xcaret, Mexico! Sadly, we lost a good majority of the photos because my computer ended up crashing on me before I could post them online…

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

Lara has always been an extremely positive influence on me ever since I was a little girl. All throughout school I was severely bullied to the point of being physically spit on, thrown into lockers, beaten, and made fun of on a daily basis. When I first started playing Tomb Raider, I was around 11 or 12 years old. Lara was such a strong, independent, and kickass woman, and that was exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up! I embraced what Lara stood for, her confidence, her courage… All that mattered to me after school was getting home and beating the next level! Then I started to take my favorite aspects from Lara and incorporate them into real life. I gained confidence through exploration, camping to survive, and traveling. I strived to be the best at any sport I played; regardless of how much the other kids teased me. And then, for Halloween one year, I decided to dress up as Lara. When I wore the costume to school, all the other classmates knew who I was, and I got a lot of positive feedback. It was a boost of confidence I truly needed, and through research online I found Chuck Brite’s website which hosted Lara Croft look-a-like competitions. I entered in as many as I could, and quickly made friends in the cosplay community. Some of which I am still friends with today! And now that I’m a mother, I most certainly plan on passing on the same values to my son!

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I’ve always loved ancient Egypt, and I was looking for a video game about it when I was first introduced to Tomb Raider. I was instantly hooked to the universe, and I really liked the character and her personality. She had a personal story and a background, which was unusual at the time. I loved that.

One day, at home, we had some toy guns and, while I played around with them, my sister told me “You look like Lara!” The next day, we had a costume party and I dressed up as Lara Croft.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

I made the outfit of the first Tomb Raider movie. It was also the first one I wore on a photoshoot. A bit later, I made a couple of outfits from The Angel of Darkness, that would soon be released.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

The Underworld outfit! It might not seem like it but walking around in a Tomb Raider outfit is hard: things like the holsters or the backpack are great for photoshoots but they tend to move a lot and to impair your freedom of movement. It’s not the case with the Underworld outfit: all the arsenal and the accessories are placed or clipped in a way that allows you to jump around. Besides, that outfit is rather flattering for the eye!

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

I usually make the outfits that I like as soon as I discover them, Sometimes I need to improve them. For example, at the moment, I’m just remaking the Reborn outfit: I had built it from early screenshots, which also means that a lot of details were still in progress. I’m remaking it with the props, the 3 states of the bow, etc.

As other costumes go, I really love the catsuit outfits in general, but they’re such a challenge: you have to be athletic and really perfect to wear them. I don’t think I’m ready for that! (Editor note: WE DO!)

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

Strangely enough, the Tomb Raider 1 outfit. First of all, the latex fabric is a nightmare to cut properly. Then, the accessories are also hard to wear in a realistic manner.

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

I am usually looking for the best places for my photoshoots, but it hasn’t been in any exotic location so far. I usually end up playing around in the sewers. I do have a big project coming up this Summer though… more to come!

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

I haven’t been to exotic places per se… Aside from my next project, I’d love to visit Thailand and maybe take a photoshoot for the occasion. Egypt would be great to visit, but I’m not so sure about the practicality for a Lara Croft photoshoot.

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

I wouldn’t say that Lara had an influence on my life per se. One thing is for sure: without Lara in my life, I wouldn’t walk around stinky places so much! I wasn’t looking for a role-model when I first played Tomb Raider. Lara is dertermined and adventurous, and I liked finding a heroine with a personality that was close to mine…

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

I was drawn to the Tomb Raider franchise by pure chance! My family was very into technology. We were just getting into computer gaming, and upon purchasing a PC Gamer issue, my dad came across a demo featuring Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft. I tried it out and fell in love with it, and much in the same week one of my cousins offered me Tomb Raider II. He exasperated that it was too hard, but I might like it. Upon taking on the challenge I found myself fully immersed in the world of Tomb Raider. Getting every game I could play, reading about Lara extensively, and eagerly awaiting the next title

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

I tackled The Angel of Darkness shorts and jean combo. I was drawn to this set because one of my favorite colors is black, and the camouflage was the cherry on top! The jeans combo made it easy to casually cosplay Lara without creating a scene, back then when I was just getting into Cosplay. It was called Look-A-Likes then.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

My favorite Lara ensemble has been the classic TR II render version of Lara, I feel that it encompasses in a large extent my image of Lara Croft as a character.

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

I have many favorites, but if I had to choose:

  • TR II Sola Wetsuit
  • TR II Bomber Jacket
  • TR III Catsuit
  • TR III Nevada
  • TR Legend Sport Pink Jacket
  • TR Legend Gothic Jacket
  • TR Anniversary Main
  • TR AOD Camo long trousers
  • TR Underworld White swimsuit
  • TR Underworld England ensemble

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

I definitely feel as though Reborn Lara, the survivor version, has been quite difficult to put together. The weathering is very specific. I’ve become detail oriented over the years, and I feel that every little stain, cut, and tear needs to be very precise in order to bring the same kind of likeness to life.

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

Sadly I’ve not done conventions as long as I have been Cosplaying! I had the great opportunity to attend one last year but had no proper costumes ready. For the year of 2013 I will be featuring both my Anniversary costume - which I am having the very beautiful and talented Aleena Averly make - and my Reborn Cosplay which I have been working on extensively with the help of Sara Croft and Kristen Anne.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

The Czech Republic! I feel like it’s got wonderful rich history. I got to travel there with my husband Christian and my mother in law for Thanksgiving. We were living in Germany through my hubby’s Army assignment, and it gave us the opportunity to take the train there and enjoy it to its fullest potential. We were impressed with how beautiful its history is, how its architecture is so vast, and how wonderful the people were. So yes, Czech Republic all the way.

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

Oh my god yes! Lara Croft drew me in because of her fierceness and unapologetic nature in being amazing at what she does. I found Lara in a stage of life where I needed bolstering and a good role model the most. She has definitely become a crucial part of my life and to this day still continues to influence it. Lara has taught me how important it is to never give up. She has also given me confidence, intrigue, and a thirst for life. That is a very beautiful thing to have.

Q&A

What first drew you to the Tomb Raider franchise, and what initially inspired you to cosplay as Lara Croft?

Way back in 1996 I kept hearing rumors of an amazing game called Tomb Raider. I then purchased a charity disc with a free demo of the game for the PS1. To say I was hooked the minute I started playing it was an understatement. My husband and I spent many a night playing the demo until the very small hours of the morning. I can say Lara was responsible for many a snooze on the office desk. At the time memory cards were pretty pricey, so I didn’t have one. Can you imagine what it was like to just get Lara up the stairs, only to have her die and go right back to the beginning! Yes frustrating to say the least! So I eventually got the game and a well needed memory card. The first time I cosplayed Lara was for an on-line competition at a site called Adventurer’s Place, now called Raiderquest.

What Lara Croft costume did you tackle first?

I tackled two at once - First Lara’s Movie Look for Cambodia, and the classic outfit from the first game. I was desperate to get hold of a rubber vest, so while waiting I got other gear from the two outfits together.

What is your favorite Lara Croft ensemble?

Classic by far!

What Croft costumes are still on your roster?

A lady should be modest about her age, so I am a retired Croft! I still cosplay Lara in miniature as I create Lara’s outfits now for ball-jointed dolls…I still have a desire to cosplay Lara and I love seeing all the new girls cosplaying her.

Which Lara costume was the most difficult to construct? Was it due to a particular garment or prop?

I think they can all be difficult to construct, as you want to do Lara justice and create everything as accurate as you possibly can. For me the gun rigs are the hardest, and the most complicated gun rig by far was the Movie one. Not so much the belt but the “floating” holsters

Lara Croft’s lifestyle is full of intrigue and adventure. Do you have any memorable photoshoots or convention appearances that pay tribute to Lara’s lifestyle?

I think all Lara shoots are pretty memorable good or bad. You learn all the time, how to aim guns straight and be believable, how to hold yourself, how to pose, take an interesting or exciting picture and not just a standard pose. Getting into Lara’s mindset, what would she do? How would she interact with her surroundings? I love conventions ! Bringing Lara to everyone.

Along the same lines, what’s the most exotic location you’ve traveled to?

I think it has to be Florida, and Disney’s Animal Kingdom! The place is made for Lara - they have a ruined Cambodian temple, too!

What about Lara’s physical strength or mental prowess most inspires you? Has this, or your desire to cosplay Lara, influenced your daily life?

I have always been pretty interested in all things past, and Lara really added to that with her no nonsense approach, and her morality. It’s never been about money with Lara, it’s always been that sense of adventure and unearthing the past. I have always admired her so much for her ability to go that bit further, and do what is right. Lara is beautiful but don’t let that fool you. She is tough but she does have a vulnerable side, kind of a Marilyn Monroe in shorts and a backpack. Lara is a great role model and I have seen so a huge number of girls wanting to cosplay her. Lara is an icon, there are many imitators in film and TV, but she is the original one off and others pale in comparison. I was lucky enough to be one of the original Lara cosplayers, and if it were not for her I would not have many of my closest friends I have today. So thank you Miss Croft!
